Robert B. Stevenson
Robert B. Stevenson, age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on Monday, September 19, 2011, at his home.
Robert was born in Rock Island, IL, on April 23, 1939, son of the late Lamoine C. Stevenson and Jessie M. Brent Stevenson. After his receiving his bachelors degree from Augustana College in 1961, he would go on to earn his masters degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1963, his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1967, and his Juris Doctorate (JD) from DePaul University in 1972. A patent attorney by profession, he was employed with Amoco for 14 years and later accepted a position with the DuPont Company, where he retired after 15 years.
An expert in the history and design of antique and classic cars, Robert was a true master of automobile restoration and delighted in tackling even the most difficult repair challenge. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in caring for his home. He also relished the challenge of solving difficult Sudoku puzzles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Martha J. Price Stevenson; sons, John Stevenson and Joel Stevenson, both of Newark, DE, and Daniel Stevenson (Terry) of Sand Springs, OK; brothers, Leroy Stevenson (Arline) of Mesa, AZ, John Stevenson (Lynnette) of Hollister, MO, James Stevenson of Moline, IL, and Charles Stevenson (Judy) of Silvis, IL; grandchildren, Larry, Melinda, Mandy, Brent, and Hannah; and great grandchildren, Alix, Britney, Jayden, and Aaliyah.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at New Ark United Church of Christ, 300 E. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
