Born August 27, 1928

Robert E. Alexander, Sr., age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. His beloved son, Lawrence Michael Alexander, Sr., passed away just a few hours later on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

Mr. Alexander was born in Kennett Square, PA on August 27, 1928 and was the son of the late Pusey and Anna Alexander. He made his career as a boilermaker and was employed by Potts Welding and Boiler Repair in New Castle, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Known for his kind and good-natured personality, Mr. Alexander was the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. He gave of his time and talents as both a little league and adult softball coach. He possessed a keen interest in farming and anything mechanical. In his leisure time, Mr. Alexander enjoyed bowling and completing jigsaw puzzles. He was happiest in the company of his beloved family, whether he was hosting picnics for family and friends or spending time with his wife, Rose at their cabin in Everett, PA. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Mr. Alexander will be truly missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 siblings and a grandson, Lawrence M. Alexander, Jr. Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose (Kelley) Alexander; children, Grace Alexander (Sue Leek), Barbara Soyars (Dave), Bette Webster, Libby Martin, Mary Trapp (Jerry), Robert E. Alexander, Jr. (Vicki) and David Alexander; daughter-in-law, Janice Alexander; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.

A funeral service for both Mr. Alexander and his son, Lawrence, Sr. will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 12 Noon. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
