Robert G. Ringland
Robert G. Ringland, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of New Castle, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Ringland was born in Wilmington on December 14, 1920, son of the late Agnes (Traynor) and George W. Ringland. After graduating from Wilmington High School, he proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946. During his military service, PFC Ringland was assigned to several troop transport ships including the USS General Harry Taylor.
In civilian life, Mr. Ringland was a master welder by profession and enjoyed a 40-year career with the DuPont Company. He began at the (former) Carneys Point Works, later moving to the Edgemoor plant and then to the Wilmington Shops, before retiring from the Chambers Works site. He was a longtime member of the Labor Lyceum in Wilmington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve H. (Ratasiewicz) Ringland, in 1965, his second wife, Mary E. (Dussell) Ringland, in 2001, and his sister, Agnes Morris. He is survived by his nephews, Raymond Morris and wife, Beverly, of New Castle and Paul Morris of Beaufort, SC; and a stepdaughter, Donna Swartz of Key West, FL.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 1st at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.
