Robert H. Czerny

Born October 20, 1942

Robert H. Czerny, age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

A lifelong Delawarean, Robert was born in Wilmington on October 20, 1942, and was a son of the late Edward E. Czerny and Dorothy A. (Holden) Czerny. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. A self-employed truck driver, Robert retired in 2000 after many years in the industry. He also worked for the University of Delaware as a bus driver for the athletic department where he was primarily responsible for transporting the women’s basketball team.

Robert was a 30 year member of New Castle Moose Lodge No. 1578. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with family and friends. He will be remembered by all as a loving and devoted family man and will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine M. Jones; sister, Joan Blunt; brother, James Czerny; and grandson, Shane F. Jones. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jo (Gullion) Price; daughter, Dawn A. Akozer of Sykesville, MD; stepdaughters, Deborah K. Bello of Hockessin, Elizabeth Ann Smith of Berryville, VA and Delores S. Lynch of Laurel; stepsons, Bobby K. Price of Laurel and Jesse C. Price of Smyrna; sister, Zella Lewis of Nottingham, PA; brothers, Edward Czerny of New Castle and George Czerny of Milford; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great great granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.
