Born February 22, 1926

Bob Ford, affectionately known as Rip to his family, age 88 of Newark, DE, passed away at home on Monday, Oct.27, 2014.

Bob was born on February 22, 1926 in Baltimore, MD to the late Reba K. (Spedden) Ford and William H. Ford. He graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1943, then enlisted in the Navy. During WWII he completed the Navy College Training program, served on a minesweeper in the Pacific and was discharged in 1946.

Bob graduated in 1950 from the University of Baltimore with a BS in Accounting. He retired after a 35 year career with the Exxon Corporation and then operated his own consulting firm.
As an adult, Bob resided in Dundalk and Joppa, MD and Wilmington and Newark, DE.

Bob was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Mitzi; his brother, Bill Ford and his sister Helen Mongan. He is survived by his 4 children; son, Bob Ford, Jr and his wife Kathy, son, Mark Ford and his wife Frances, daughter, Sue Iverson and her husband Mike and daughter, Jill Ford; sisters, Dot Barton and Libby Dircks; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm Thursday evening, October 30, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday morning, October 31, 2014, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720 or to Homewatch Care Givers of Delaware, 5560 Kirkwood Hwy.,Wilmington, DE 19808.
