Robert J. McCloskey, Jr., fondly known as Bob, age 84, of Newark, DE passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 29, 1931, Bob was a son of the late Robert J. and Alice (Jeffries) McCloskey. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Bob worked many jobs throughout his career and later retired from the Guardian Construction Company located in Bear, DE.

Bob was proud of his Irish heritage and will fondly be remembered as an Irishman to the end. He loved to travel all of Ireland with his beloved wife, Beatrice. Bob also enjoyed trips to Florida and visiting Disney World with his family. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his loving family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known as a man who never slowed down. Bob was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Newark, DE. He was a dedicated member of Holy Family and formerly served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, James McCloskey, Charles McCloskey, Alice Taylor, and Grace Price.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice R. (Manning) McCloskey; daughters, Linda Charles (Doug), Susan Perrone (Dennis, Sr.), and Maureen McCloskey; grandchildren, Jonathan Charles (Elizabeth), Katrina Pruitt (Christopher), Ian Charles, Sean Charles, Dennis Perrone, Jr. (Amanda), and Brandon Perrone; great grandchildren, Jordan Charles-Pruitt, Savanah Pruitt, Cody Pruitt, Isabelle Charles, and Arlee Perrone.

A committal service will be held at 1:00 in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE, 19701.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
