Robert John Bruce
Robert John Bruce, age 69, of New Castle, DE passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, while surrounded by his beloved family at the Heartland Hospice House.
Born in Penns Grove, New Jersey on May 1, 1944, Bob was the son of June Bruce and the grandson of Alma Bruce. After graduating from Penns Grove High School, he served in the US Army, Company T-2nd Brigade in 1966, and fought long and hard in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Bob spent most of his career as a restaurant manager, working at various locations throughout New Castle County.
He was well known for being one of the most charismatic and influential managers and coaches that the New Castle Little League ever had.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandmother. Bob will be truly and deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Sandra (Stauffer) Bruce; sons, Rick, Mike and Mark; daughters-in-law, Amiee and Carolyn; cousin, Arlene McGinley; and 8 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where family and friends may visit from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

I am so sorry that Bob wasn’t able to enjoy his “golden”years in good health. Bob was a great spirit who over the years brought a smile to my face. He had a gruff exterior and he was a “pussy cat.” Although Bob was not a national figure he made the world a better place. I am so sorry that I will be unable to attend tomorrow. Sandy and family; I am so sorry to read of Bobs passing. We talked when I has home for Christmas and he told me that his health was failing. I am still on the road and will not be home till probably Thursday. So sorry to miss the service.

I never got to tell you just how much you meant to me as my coach. You were more then that to alot of kids coming thru N.C.L.L. You were someone who would listen to us if we had a problem,take us home if our parents couldnt pick us up and just an all round great man. Your passing is a great loss for the world because you were truly ONE OF A KIND!!!!! 1985 will always be the greatest year of my life because thats the year you took a bunch of 13-15 year olds and did something special for alot of us. We went 15-0 that year and you changed my swing after 8 years and I hit my first HR ever in my life and for that I am TRULY greatful sir. Your in better place now. Teach them how to play ball N.C style up there and I’ll see ya soon.
