Robert W. Noble, age 88, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
Born in Detroit, MI on June 14, 1925, Robert was the son of the late Russell and Glenna Noble. He honorably served in the US Navy during WWII aboard numerous naval vessels and submarines including the USS Darby, USS Finback, USS Piper, USS Bang, USS Cero, USS Sea Owl, USS Howard W. Gilmore, USS Antietam, and the USS La Salle. Robert met his wife, Amelia, while stationed in New London, CT. He retired from active duty service at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and then made his career with the DuPont Company, where he worked as an engineer until his retirement. Robert traveled the world extensively during both his military and civilian career and had many fond memories of his trips abroad.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mystic, CT. In his leisure time, Robert became a licensed pilot and enjoyed woodworking. Those who knew him knew he was happiest either on the water or in the sky. Most of all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and brother and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Amelia M. Jannett Noble; daughters, Anita Noble and husband Donald Werden of West Lafayette, IN and Anna May Pratté of Newark, DE; and son, Louis Michael Carpo, III of Newark, DE.
A committal service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at The Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 (woundedwarriorproject.org).
