Rodger Dean Schaen
Mr. Rodger Dean Schaen, known fondly as Rick, age 61, of Newark, DE, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 30, 2011, after a long illness. He fought a courageous battle and was a very brave, kind, and gentle man.
In his youth, Mr. Schaen was a musician in a rock and roll band and an avid drag racer. Later in life, he worked as an auto mechanic and later became a skilled small machine technician. Anything he attempted was done to perfection. Whatever he did, he was a master.
Mr. Schaen particularly loved racing remote control cars with his son, Greg, and watching NASCAR with his loving wife of 42 years, Ruth. As long as he was with Ruth and Greg, he was happy.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth L. Griffiths Schaen; son, Gregory G. Schaen of Newark; mother, Frances Wright Schaen of Newark; brother, Paul R. Schaen and his wife, Christine, of Bear; and nephew, Andrew Schaen of Bear. He was preceded in death by his father, George Schaen, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, February 3rd, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 4th, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Newark Cemetery.
The family extends special thanks to hospice nurse Nancy Farmer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
