Ronald F. Lennon
Mr. Ronald F. Lennon, age 64, of Wilmington, DE, died suddenly at home on Monday, April 25, 2011, while tending his beautiful yard and garden, which he loved planting and caring for each year.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Lennon was born in Wilmington on October 31, 1946, son of the late Robert E. Lennon and Verna Patrick Lennon, and grew up in the Edgemoor Gardens community. As a young man he proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War in the North Atlantic. He would continue in public service in his civilian career as a professional firefighter with the Wilmington Fire Department, where he retired after 16 years of distinguished service. Most recently, he was employed with the maintenance department of Kennett Square Golf & Country Club. Active in his community, he was also a longtime member of Immanuel Church in Wilmington.
Mr. Lennon was a gifted woodworker and carpenter throughout his life. He delighted in home renovations and maintenance and was well known for his ability to fix anything. Most of all, he was a devoted family man who was at his happiest when spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Nancy Dedman Lennon; children, Ronald F. Jr., James E., Daniel R., Stephen M., and Sarah E.; daughter-in-law, Shannon Hufnal; grandchildren, Erika, Matthew, and Savannah; great grandchildren, Liah and Luke; siblings, Bob Lennon (Irene), Diane Valiante, Patty Lennon (Alan Cooper), and Ed Lennon (Dorothy Bobo); cousin, Deb Palmer; mother-in-law, Sylvia Dedman; in-laws, Charles and Elizabeth Skinner, David and Linda Dedman, Jay Azorlosa, and Kurt and Diane Brittingham; former spouse, Nina McGonegal; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Albert Valiante, nephew, Charles Bubba Skinner, and sister-in-law, Elaine Dedman Azorlosa.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, April 28th, at Immanuel Church, 2414 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 29th, at the church. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
