Rose Ann Wells
Rose Ann Wells, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010. She was born in Strasburg, VA, on May 26, 1920, to the late Lewis B. Ambrose and Lucy L. Ambrose.
Rose Ann was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd F. Wells, Sr., in 1981. The couple moved from Strasburg, VA, to Newark in 1957, where they raised their children until Lloyd was transferred to Illinois in 1973. There, they attended St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Park Ridge. Active in the womens group and numerous guilds, Rose Ann also served as an aide at the St. Matthews Lutheran Home while in Park Ridge. She returned to Newark in 1982, following Lloyds death.
A member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Newark for many years, Rose Ann served on the altar guild, flower guild, memorial garden committee, and womens group. In addition to her work in the church, she also served with Hope Dining Room, Luther Tower Aides, Meals on Wheels, and the Newark Area Welfare Committee, among others.
Devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Rose Ann will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by son, Lloyd F. Wells, Jr. (Pat Peterson); daughters, Loretta Wells McMaster (Lee McMaster), Judith Wells Brunner (Phil Wescott), and Susan Wells Allen (Richard Allen); grandchildren, Brian Wells McMaster (Leticia), Craig Lee McMaster (Tina), Katherine Peterson Wells, Sarah Allen Alsop (David), Riley Peterson Wells, and James Wells Allen (Nathan); great grandchildren, Natalie Rose McMaster, Mackenzie Paige Allen, Devin Craig McMaster, and one great grandchild on the way.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 9, 2010, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE, 19713, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church at the address above. Donations should be marked for the Memorial Garden, which Rose Ann helped plan and plant.
