Rosemary Melody Foster Kowalski
Rosemary Melody Foster Kowalski, age 70, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Heartland Hospice House, after a courageous battle with the complications of diabetes.
Born in Wilmington on June 20, 1941, Rosemary was the daughter of the late George Wesley Foster and Dorothy Rose Geist Foster. She was employed with the Department of Justice and the Office of the Attorney General for 30 years until her retirement in 1998 due to blindness.
Active in her community, Rosemary was a Life Member of Thomas Cooper Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 475 in Newark, a Life Member of the Christiana Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary at Station 12 in Christiana, and a graduate of the New Castle County Civilian Police Academy. She was also honored with the Bronze Award by Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for her many years of committed service to the organization.
A devout Christian throughout her life, she had been a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Newark for 59 years. She volunteered as the receptionist for the church office every Tuesday from 2001 through 2008 and had served on the board of directors of St. Pauls School.
She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ruth Kowalski of New Castle; her beloved grandson, Tyler James Kowalski of New Castle, who was the light of her life; and her companion, Michael Hall, who never left her side during her final days. She was supported by a host of friends, including Tammy Pack and George Ambagais, both of Newark.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, where visitation will begin at 9 am. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, Nottingham Road, Newark.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rosemary may be made to the Christiana Fire Company, P.O. Box 189, Bear, DE 19701.
