  • We want to extend our deepest sympathies to the Roop family. We first met Roy and Sparkie when we rented a boat slip at WHB in early 1990. He stopped us, asked who we were, where we lived and why we were there. Before long he was showing us places that were for sale as we expressed our interest in someday living at WHB. Just a few years later, we moved in directly behind him. Roy was a great neighbor! He had a kind heart and never hesitated to help anyone, despite his hard exterior. He always had candy to give to the kids including our own grandchildren. They looked for him everytime they were there, and he became known as ‘Uncle Roy’. Also, our dog Cola, will always bark at silver cars thinking it’s him. He always had treats for her as well! She beame more interested in seeing ‘Uncle Roy’ than Petie. When he got his last Harley, he took us for a ride. It was to be a short ride around WHB but he took us down to Massey’s and back! He was so proud!! We had lots of good times and conversations with Roy. He was a kind, passionate man and we will miss him!!!!

  • My family and I would like to extend our sympathy to your family during this sad time. We came to know Roy when we purchased our summer place in WHB in 2001. He was a fun person to be around and our children along with many others enjoyed seeing Roy, as he always had candy for them! He certainly enjoyed handing them the candy, and he told me himself the Thanks he received was the smile on the children’s face. He appeared ROUGH to them but they all knew where Mr. Roy stood! I myself am glad that I had the opportunity to talk with him a couple of weeks ago, he expressed that he wasn’t feeling the greatest…but we all knew Roy he gave 100 percent. Roy I’ll miss the good conversation that we had over the last thirteen years, you told me a lot of stories and I’ll cherish them for a lifetime. May God take great care of you. Thanks for all the laugh’s! You were a wonderful person. Rest in peace. To Roy’s family Thanks for sharing him with us all, he’ll truly be missed. God Bless you all during this time.

  • Dearest Trish, we are saddened to hear of your loss. Please know that our prayers are with you. We love you all. Pauline (Mamaw) and Sheila McKinney.
