Ruby E. Kelly
February 14, 1921 – July 12, 2014
Ruby E. Kelly, age 93, of Erwin, TN, and formerly of New Castle, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Montcalm, West Virginia on February 14, 1921, Mrs. Kelly was a daughter of the late James D. Duncan and Alma Dunford Duncan. Mrs. Kelly was a head cashier for Shop Rite Supermarkets in Dover and Newark for many years. She loved sewing and painting still life scenery. Mrs. Kelly also had the distinction of being the first female race car driver to compete at the former Wilmington Speedway.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin W. Kelly, Sr., who died in 1991; children, Patrick R. Kelly and Betty Loretta Christine Story; grandchildren, Jeffrey W. Story and Terry Russell; sisters, Grace Johnson and Eunice Wiley; and brothers, Lewis, Lester and Wade Duncan. She is survived by her children, Richard W. Kelly, Sr. of New Castle, DE, Quentin W. Kelly, Jr. of Elkton, MD and Sandra S. Whitson (Benny B.) of Erwin, TN; 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720, where family and friends may visit from 1pm until 2pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
