Ruth Joyce (Mersereau) Lindfors

Born March 4, 1920

Ruth Joyce (Mersereau) Lindfors, age 96, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

Ruth was born in New Brunswick, Canada on March 4, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Winslow J. and Freda May (Noble) Mersereau.

She was a longtime member of VFW Aux. Post #3420, the Military Order of the Cootie Aux. P.T. #1 and American Legion Aux. Post #30. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many, Ruth’s sweet smile, wittiness and generous heart will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Robert B. Trader; and 8 siblings. Ruth is survived by her husband of 30 years, Robert M. Lindfors; sons, Raymond E. Trader and Randolph L. Trader; step-daughter, Tina Lindfors; step-son, Scott Lindfors; 4 daughters-in-law; sister, Dorothy Phillips; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12 Noon on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Atterbury VFW, 649 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702.

  • I am so sorry to hear her passing. She was such a sweet, funny loving lady. She will be missed by a lot of people. Sending Bob and the rest of her family my condolences.

  • You’ve had a few difficult days but we feel Ruth was and is in good hands. She had a great family who loved her dearly as did we. She will be missed. Sorry we will not be able to come to the funeral. Best to all of you and hopefully we’ll get to see you all in person again soon.

  • Ruth will always be remembered as a angel when she came into the gordon family ..and brought hope to my father phil gordon an gave so much to our sisters n brothers struggling to stay together when hard times hit home in the early 1970.s..phil n ruth.married.but phil had a fatal heartattack on his way to work.he was 52yrs old..and i thought ruth was much younger..but was actually 5yrs older than phil..she was incredibly beautifull and had a brillant smile..and a great sense of humor.. Our thoughts n prayers to bob n all their familiy n friends..ruth is a big part of my family pic history project..thanku for being there for us all.
