Sandra J. Diego-Cooper

Sandra J. Diego-Cooper, 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Sandy was a graduate of The High School of Commerce in Springfield, MA. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Lyndon State University in Vermont, and a Master’s degree from the Graduate School at the University of Delaware. She taught special education in the Colonial School District for over 30 years, where she demonstrated a passion for educating all children. She retired to Chincoteague, VA, and enjoyed her final days with her numerous friends.

Sandy is survived by her children, Jason F. Cooper of New Castle, DE and Jennifer A. Cooper of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law; and nephew.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7 pm on Friday evening, May 9, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandy’s name may be sent to The Kenny Family Foundation, 501 S. Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

  • My heart breaks that we will not share the plans we had together to sit in the field and watch my new home be build. All the gifts you have give me to be put in our new home will forever be cherished. The little blue spruce tree that you gave us to plant in our new front yard has already taken root there, and each Christmas will have a decoration hanging on it with your name. I know you were not ready to go, as we had so many plans for this summer, but He has called you and I know where you are. God Bless you my friend and peace be with your family in their time of grief.

  • Sandy’s only fault was she tried to help everyone, she had a heart as big as the moon. She was creative, artistic and emailed me some of the funniest jokes I have ever heard. When I had cancer she sent me something funny almost everyday to keep my spirits up. I will miss her crazy stories and sense of humor.She will be greatly missed.
