Born June 16, 1945

Sandra J. (White) Dwyer, known fondly as Sandy, age 70, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015.

Sandy was born in Ridley Park, PA on June 16, 1945, and was a daughter of the late Adolphus White and Jeanette (Johnston) White. She made her career with the State of Delaware where she worked as an insurance investigator and retired after many years of dedicated service.

Active in her community, Sandy served as past vice president on the board of the Colonial School District, as past president for the Colonial School Bus Union and as the president of the William Penn High School Football Boosters. A gifted seamstress, she shared her passion with others by working as a sewing instructor at JoAnne’s Fabrics for many years. Sandy adored the beach and loved spending time there with family and friends. Above all else, she was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt and will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her children, Francis Dwyer (Andrea) and Krissy Showacre (James); brothers, Rodger, David, Warren and Richard White; sisters, Susie Fachet and Margaret Pitts; grandchildren, Samantha and Rebecca Dwyer and Jimmy Showacre; and nieces, Jessica and Brittany Zaruba.

A funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening, September 17, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends and family may visit from 5 pm until 6:30 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandy’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Ever since I was born, you were a part of my life. I grew up with your children, we were always at their birthday parties and played at the park for hours…..as I grew older and had children of my own…you were at every baby shower (spoiling me with all your beautiful handmade gifts). My heart hurts that you are gone and I will always love you. I am so lucky to have you in my life for 44 years.

  • She will be greatly missed. She was such a kind person and was so patient. She taught me how to sew at Joanne’s and nothing was too much trouble for Sandy. She often spoke about you, Krissy and was always excited when you guys would go to the beach. That was her favorite time. She was proud of you and Fran and her grandkids. May she rest and peace. May you all have happy memories of her to help you heal. You know she is in a good place.
