Sandra Mae Sandy Hammer, age 67, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Born in Berwick, PA on April 11, 1947, Sandy was a daugther of the late Ellsworth C. Houser and Nettie Mae (Wilson) Houser. She was a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family.

Sandy was a long time member of the Joseph B. Stahl Memorial Post 30 Ladies Auxiliary, where she tended bar for many years. She enjoyed dancing, especially with her husband. Sandy adored spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren who were the apples of her eye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ellsworth Bud Houser II and a sister, Patricia DelVecchio. Sandy is survived by her husband of 29 years, Ronald Hammer; son, Robert Esposito and wife, Noreen of Bear; 2 grandsons, Derek and Vincent Esposito; step daughter, Laura Hammer of Sarasota, FL; sisters, Connie L. Westcott and husband, Doug of Wilmington, Nancy Clymer and husband, Frank of Newark, Cindy Blood of Bensalem, PA, Floria LeHenaff of Philadelphia, PA and Faye Dailey and husband, Mike of Philadelphia, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Sunday evening, November 16, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A second visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Monday morning, November 17, 2014 at the funeral home where a funeral service will follow 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Second Floor, Newark, DE 19711 or to the Joseph B Stahl Memorial Post 30, 3 East Jackson Ave., New Castle, Delaware 19720.
