Sharon V. Graybeal

December 17, 1930 – January 29, 2015

Sharon Viola Graybeal, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015.

Born in Leivasy, WV on December 17, 1930, Sharon was a daughter of the late Chester E. McClung and Loura V. (Bailes) McClung. She was raised in “West by God,” WV with her siblings and would later receive her degree from WVU. Following college, she began her teaching career in Arlington, VA where she taught both English and Spanish. Sharon later relocated to New Castle, DE where she accepted a position at George Read Middle School. While teaching at George Read, she met the love of her life, Jack and the two were married on December 20, 1958. Together, the couple raised two beautiful daughters. Sharon devoted her life to caring for her family, but when her children were older her passion for teaching led her back to the Colonial School District where she served as a substitute teacher for several years.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, bird watching and spending time with family and friends. Sharon will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jack D. Graybeal, a brother, Aubrey McClung and a sister Virginia Sheehan. Sharon is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Mohiuddin and Mary Graybeal; son-in-law, Abid Mohiuddin; sister, Arwana Schoemer; and a granddaughter, Ava Mohiuddin.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 7:30 pm on Thursday evening, February 5, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle where all are welcome to share stories and memories of Sharon beginning at 7:30 pm. Interment will be held privately.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Ste. 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

My thoughts and prayers are with you 2 adored daughters. Your parents were both teachers of mine back in the 1960’s. I watched your mother and father fall in love while they were teachers at William Penn. I saw them both many times after I graduated. Some times you girls were with them. They loved you both with all their hearts. They will always be in my heart. Bless you and yours.
