Shaun McGarry - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Shaun McGarry

Born June 27, 1969

Shaun McGarry, age 47, of Newark, DE, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017, after heroically battling cancer for the last 16 months.

He was born June 27, 1969, in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth McGarry. He graduated from Glasgow High School in 1988, where he was a member of the soccer team. Shaun worked as the Art and Heritage Service Manager for Bank of America for the last 28 years. He was a fan of the Philadelphia sports teams, enjoyed cooking, watching TV (especially cooking shows), golfing and playing softball, watching his sons play sports and spending time with his friends and family.
Shaun was a wonderful husband, father, brother and uncle. We are relieved that his passing was painless. We were blessed that all of us, including his nieces and nephews, were able to spend this past weekend together as a loving family playing games and telling stories at an ocean front house in Dewey Beach, Delaware.

Although Shaun’s life was too short, those who were touched by him understand that his heart and soul will always be with us. We will always remember his smirk that told us he was up to no good and his sarcastic sense of humor that brought so much joy to our family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert J. and Marie Bessey. Shaun is survived by his wife, Kathy, and their sons, Colin and Owen; his brothers, Raymond (Hannah), Michael (Kelly); his sisters, Michele Maxwell (Jeff) and Maureen Sierocinski (Stan); his sisters-in-law, Janet Ponchak (Al) and Rosemary Press (Pat); 18 nieces and nephews; and 7 great nieces and great nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday evening, January 20, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, January 21, 2017 at Holy Family R.C. Church, East Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the American Lung Association of Delaware, 630 Churchmans Road, Ste. 202, Newark, DE 19702 or to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711.
