Born January 11, 1940

Shirley Eva McMullen Moore, age 77, of Millsboro, DE, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and matriarch to her family, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Born in the family home, Salem Woods Farm, located of off Old Baltimore Pike, on January 11, 1940, Shirley was the youngest child of the late David and Katherine McMullen. She was a member of the Newark High School graduating class of 1959. In 1961, Shirley married the love of her life, Wilbert G. Will Moore, Jr., and together they were blessed with 56 years of marriage. Will, ever loving and devoted, spent the last three years tending to Shirley’s every need.

Some of Shirley’s greatest accomplishments were taking care of her family and many friends, crocheting numerous beautiful baby blankets for loved ones, and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies. Her beautiful flower gardens were envied by many. Shirley was also an avid University of Delaware sports fan, enjoying football and basketball games, and socializing with the many wonderful friends she made at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine and David McMullen. She is survived by her loving husband, Wilbert G. Moore, Jr.; daughters, Sherry Moore and Robin Dale and her fiancé, Patrick DeSmet; adopted daughter, Laura Forbes; grandchildren, Jason Waltz, Justin Waltz (Kristina), Katherine Keskemety (Jason), Jack Dale, and Trevor Dale; great-grandchildren, Jarrett Waltz, Logan Waltz, Shauna Waltz, and Lacey Keskemety; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Joan McMullen; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Veasey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Joyce Castigolione; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday evening, October 24, 2017 and again from 10 am until 11 am on Wednesday morning, October 25, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121, W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am on Wednesday morning. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Shirley’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read’s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720 to support further research of MDS (Myelodsplastic Syndrome/Myeloid Leukemia) or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
