Shirley Jean Yeatman

Mrs. Shirley Jean Yeatman, age 73, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.


Born in Dudley, PA, on August 11, 1937, Mrs. Yeatman was the daughter of the late Chester J. Golden and Loretta A. Lavelle Golden. She made her career as a professional telephone operator with the former Diamond State Telephone Company, where she retired after 35 years of dedicated service.


A woman of great faith and compassion, Mrs. Yeatman was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of the Atonement in Claymont. She was active in her community as well, as a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brandywine Hundred Volunteer Fire Company and a volunteer with the Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery. In her leisure hours, she greatly enjoyed trips to the beach.


More than anything else, Mrs. Yeatman delighted in spending time with her beloved family, especially her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whether hosting festive holiday gatherings or cooking delicious meals to share, she was at her happiest when surrounded by her family, her many friends, and her neighbors, all of whom she adored.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Yeatman, daughter, Lisa Pettee, brother, Marty Golden, and nephew, Ron John Schmidt. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Bittell (David); brother, James Jim Bob Golden (Karen); sister, Renna M. Schmidt (Ron); six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; aunts; uncle; cousins; four nephews; and companion, Dale LeMere.


A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, 33rd and Market Streets, Wilmington.
