Shirley V. Dilks
Mrs. Shirley V. Dilks, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, age 75, of Bear, DE, died on Friday, October 29, 2010, at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
Mrs. Dilks was born in Baltimore, MD, on January 9, 1935, daughter of the late George K. Brown and Elizabeth V. Orndorf Brown. A talented homemaker throughout her life, in earlier years she also helped manage her familys businesses, Clays Motel and Western Auto in Glasgow.
Mrs. Dilks greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors at her pool and at her beach residence in Rehoboth. An excellent and creative cook, she also delighted in sharing meals and hosting family gatherings both at her home and at the beach.
She is survived by her beloved husband, George C. Dilks; daughter, Patricia D. Wiggins (Mark) of Middletown; son, Michael A. Dilks (Rhonda) of Wilmington, NC; brother, George A. Brown of Ruckersville, VA; grandchildren, Mark Wiggins, Kelly Mancuso, Shane Williams, Kennard Dilks, and Georgia Dilks; and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Harvey.
A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the funeral home, where a second visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Dilks may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
