Silke M. Cutts
Mrs. Silke M. Cutts, age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at her home amongst family.
A native of Germany, Silke was born in Leipzig on March 6, 1938, daughter of the late Bruno Gerken and Hanna Kranz Gerken. As a young woman, she greatly enjoyed all types of sports and starred in school track and field competitions. She would later make her career with Horty & Horty, an accounting firm in Wilmington, where she retired.
Throughout her life, Silke was well known for her appreciation of the performing arts, a passion that she delighted in sharing with her friends, children, and grandchildren. She possessed a keen, lively intelligence and was always interested in learning something new in whatever situation she found herself. One of her favorite ways to advance her cultural and social education was in travel, an enthusiasm which she and her husband, Richard, greatly enjoyed both in the United States and internationally. She loved spending time outdoors and viewed all of nature with an admiring eye.
Most of all, Silke delighted in spending time with her beloved family. She was unconditionally supportive of her children from their earliest youth and was proud to see them grow into the happy, successful adults she always knew they would be.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 27 years, Richard Cutts III, and sister, Bruni Gerken Schmidt. She is survived by her children, Gernot Jobst (Lauri) of Newark, DE, Ulrike Spencer (Chris) of Dover, DE, and Sabine Casazza (Chris) of Minneapolis, MN; stepchildren, Christina Cutts of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Richard Cutts of Julian, NC; grandchildren, Emily Jobst, Hanna Jobst, Abigail Jobst, Shannon Casazza, Alexa Casazza, and Breanna Casazza; stepgrandson, Connor Cutts; and brother, Klaus Gerken.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 pm on Monday, April 18, 2011, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will be held privately.
