Susan Irene Brennan, age 64, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

Born in Aston, Pennsylvania on June 28, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Elizabeth Bette Carroll Hamilton, Jr. Susan graduated from Sun Valley High School in Aston, PA. She dedicated 16 ½ years to Wilmington University, priding herself on her service to the students and her colleagues.

Susan was an extraordinary writer who enjoyed visits to the Jersey Shore. A very giving individual, she was always willing to help anyone, especially children.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, William Brennan; children, Mary Brennan, Erin Wolff (Peter), and Lori Brennan; brothers, Eric Hamilton, David Hamilton, Sr. and Herbert Hamilton III (Anita); sisters, Margie Hamilton and SaraJo MacColl (James); grandchildren, Peter Wolff and Hope Wolff; and her many nieces and nephews. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6pm until 8 pm on Tuesday evening, December 12, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s name to the Edison Charter School of Wimington, c/o Chess Club, 2200 N. Locust Street, Wilmington, DE 19802 or Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

  • Sending warm wishes to the family during this difficult time. I worked with Sue for 7 years at Wilmington University and am deeply saddened by her passing. She was an endlessly kind, patient, thoughtful, and generous friend and colleague to me. I enjoyed hearing tales about her kids and grandchildren over the years. It is clear how deeply she loved you all and through her I feel like I know some of you myself. May you be comforted by fond memories as you mourn.

  • Rest in peace Sue. I am so glad to have been your sister in law for the past 44 years. We we’re just together on Sunday for Hope’s birthday. I will always treasure Thanksgiving when we we’re all together. Lots of love surrounded us and amazing food. I will miss you.
