Susan “Sue” Buckman
October 13, 1952 – April 29, 2017
Susan “Sue” (Hornberger) Buckman, age 64, of Bear, DE, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
Sue was born in Upper Darby, PA on October 13, 1952. Daughter of the late Donald Joseph and Noel (Bailey) Hornberger, she attended William Penn High School in Delaware where she met her husband Craig. Sue retired from the University of Delaware in 2008 after 24 years in Accounting and Worker’s Compensation.
She enjoyed the beach, skiing, sewing, her Red Mustang of 12 years, and traveling with her husband. Sue’s favorite time of year was Christmas and her home always showed her love of Santas and the Christmas Spirit. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her four beloved grandchildren. In her leisure time, she loved walking Longwood Gardens where she was a member and took pride in maintaining her own gardens.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Craig Buckman; daughter, Sheila Elliott and husband, Jeff; son, Brian Buckman and his wife, Sheryl; and grandchildren, Jenna, Alec, Rebecca, and Paige.
She is predeceased by her twin sister, Linda Hornberger, and brothers, Gerry and Don Hornberger, father-in-law, Robert Calvin, and brother-in-law, Robert Scott. Sue is survived by her siblings, Stephen (Mary Rita), Sandy Fusto (Joe), Karl, Mike (Dar), and Chris. Sue is also deeply missed by her mother-in-law, Jean Marie Buckman and siblings-in-law; Grant (Sandy), Shelley Rhoades (Jim), Kim Ritchie (Bruce), Todd, and Deb Brodie (Kevin). Also, a host of wonderful and beloved nieces and nephews will miss their “Aunt Sue.”
