Teddy R. Harrison, Jr.
Mr. Teddy R. Harrison, Jr., age 67, of Laurel, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, died on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wilmington, DE.
Born in Elkton, MD, on July 27, 1943, Mr. Harrison was the son of the late Teddy Harrison and Eileen Pike. He was a proud member of the US Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, attaining the rank of sergeant, and earning numerous honors and medals, including three Purple Hearts. Following his honorable discharge from military service, he made his career in professional facilities maintenance.
An avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman, Mr. Harrison was an expert bass fisherman and hunter, as well as a longtime member of the Bear Rod & Reel Club, where he had served as president, and the Delaware Bass Stalkers. He was a talented football coach and for many years mentored young athletes in the Glasgow Dragons, a local team in the CTJFL. He was also a member of many military and fraternal organizations, including American Legion Post #19, the VFW, and the Moose Lodge.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Harrison greatly enjoyed watching his favorite WWE wrestlers, drawing, tending the beautiful yard he created around his home, and, most of all, spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Susie A. Mills Harrison; children, William R. Ballard (Pamela), Trisha L. Benton, and Kim Ballard, all of Walterboro, SC, Susan R. Preston (Gary) of Delmar, MD, Katherine M. Bentley of Lexington, KY, Mark W. Harrison of Elkton, MD, and Christina L. Harrison of Elkton, MD; sisters, Phyllis V. Brainard (John) of Milton, DE, and Nancy R. Polus (Tom) of Newark, DE; stepfather, Albert Simmons of Newark, DE; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. A committal service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
