Terry O’Brian Till

Born May 9, 1951

Terry O’Brian Till, age 66, of Nemacolin, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017.

Born in Uniontown, PA, on May 9, 1951, Terry was the son of the late Elmer Breakiron and Bernice Harford. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and later served as an MP, attaining the rank of E5 – Sergeant. Terry made his career as a corrections officer in Greene County, PA, retiring after many years of employment.

A passionate football fan, he looked forward to cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers each season. He was a gun enthusiast and avid collector. Terry adored animals of all kinds, but was especially fond of horses. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching drag racing. Above all else, Terry loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Schwandtner. Terry is survived by his children, Heidi S. Upchurch (James, Jr.) of Elkton, MD, Michael O. Till (Jessica) of Newark, and Jason E. Till of Edwards, CO; former wife, Helga Owens; and grandchildren, James III, Abigail, Adelynne, and Garrett.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 10 am on Wednesday morning, June 7, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

    Buddy was my cousin. My father Wendell Breakiron was his uncle. My dad and Buddy’s dad Elmer were brothers. I remember Buddy from when we were kids. Sadly, we hadn’t seen each other in a long time.

  • I am sorry about your loss. Terry was a good man. I remember when he approached me on shift and was going to hang it up due to his vision loss. He was not worried about his own safety but the safety of the people around him. When I saw his name on the board it deeply saddened me and I immediately reflected back to this day and the subsequent days when I would see him and we would have a brief conversation. You will be missed by all – watch over us from above brother!
