Thelma Catherine (West) Brasure, age 89, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 15, 1924, Thelma was a daughter of the late Charles West and Thelma Springer West. She was a talented and devoted homemaker to her large family.

A devout Catholic, Thelma gave of her time and talents to her church for many years. She volunteered with the Spanish Sisters in Wilmington and was a parishoner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Thelma especially loved serving as a fundraiser for the annual Rock-A-Thon, which benefited the Little Sisters of the Poor. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing Lotto-Lotto, bingo and Pokeno with her many friends. Thelma loved and adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were the apples of her eye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles West; sisters, Theresa McClain, Helen Connor and Frances Jeppeson; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Thelma is survived by her children, Joan Colatriano (Cliff), George Brasure (Grace), Bernadette Blevins (Steve), Catherine Hall and Juanita Stockard (Ron); sisters, Dee Falco (Joe), Rita Coleman (Ken), Janet Wallace (George), Mary Ann Lawson (Jack), Barbara Krawczyk and Jean Dorris; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5 pm until 7 pm on Sunday evening, March 30, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Monday morning, March 31, 2014, at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Thelma’s name may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
