Thelma L. Sutton
Mrs. Thelma Laura Sutton, age 90, of St. Georges, DE, departed this life on Monday, April 25, 2011, at her home.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Sutton was born in Christiana on May 27, 1920, daughter of the late Harold Prettyman and Mary Downs. She was raised in Delaware City and lived for 70 years in St. Georges.
As a young woman, Mrs. Sutton was employed for a time at Fort DuPont, and would go on to become a talented homemaker. Active in her community, she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Delaware City, St. Georges Presbyterian Church, and Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Sutton will be long remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who devoted her life to caring for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Francis O. Sutton, in 1995. She is survived by her son, James F. Sutton (Patricia); daughter, Joyce Reynolds; grandchildren, Richard Reynolds III (Donna), Christopher Reynolds (Cori), Shawn Reynolds (Andrea), and Brian Sutton (Vonya); great grandchildren, James Alexander Sutton, Richie Reynolds, Tyler Reynolds, Zachary Reynolds, Olivia Reynolds, and Nathan Reynolds; brothers, Harold Prettyman and William Prettyman; and sister, Janice Nelson.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 214 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
