Thelma M. Cangello, known affectionately as Sis, age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, October 25, 2015.

Born in Landenberg, PA on August 6, 1933, Thelma was a daughter of the late Clarence Crockett and Edna (Argo) Crockett. In addition to caring for her family, she worked for Avon at the company’s Newark plant until her retirement in 1980.

A proud military wife, Thelma was incredibly supportive of her husband’s service and the couple enjoyed attending U.S. Marine Corps reunions together. She was an avid reader and liked adding to her vast collection of beautiful antique dolls. Thelma was a talented sewer who enjoyed crocheting, needlework and quilting in her spare time. Above all else, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be very dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony Carl Cangello, who died in 2000; daughter, Gail Bevans; brother, James Crockett; sister, Carolyn Cross; and sisters-in-law, Helen and Margaret Crockett. Thelma is survived by her sons, Steven Bevans and David Bevans, both of Arcadia, FL; brothers, David Crockett of New Castle, DE, Charles Crockett (Kathy) of Townsend, DE and Norman D. Crockett (Joanne) of Rising Sun, MD; sisters, Linda Lucas (James) of Newark, DE and Lois Nesci (Fran) of Bear, DE; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care of Maryland, especially to nurses Malisa and Amy for the exceptional care they provided to Thelma.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, October 30, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to Seasons Hospice, 253 Lewis Lane, Ste. 303, Havre De Grace, MD 21078.

  • You and Tony were always such a blessing when our kids were growing up. Don’t know how we could have made it as young parents with out you. You will be truly missed,
