Theodore “Ted” S. Winant

Theodore Ted S. Winant, of Newark, DE, passed away on November 27, 2015.

Born in Talleyville on December 27, 1922, Ted was a son of the late Ralph Wesley and Margaret (Pennell) Brinton Winant. He proudly served as a US Navy medic during World War II. Following his discharge, Ted made his career as a central research technician at the DuPont Company Experimental Station in Wilmington, retiring after 43 years of dedicated service.

Active in his community, he was a member of the Martin Luther Foundation and the Delaware Rose Society. In his leisure time Ted enjoyed tending to his garden, raising beautiful roses; and cooking delicious meals for his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wesley and Elizabeth Winant. Ted is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy A. (Trinks) Winant; sister, Mary Hall, of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. A committal service with military honors will follow in the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Second Floor, Newark, DE 19711 or the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.

    He was a man of integrity & class. He always had a smile on his face. The love you two shared for 49 years is a love that is so special in so many ways..You were right by his side in sickness & in health.

  • Aunt Dottie, we are so saddened at the loss of Uncle Ted. We remember him as a dignified, handsome gentleman full of love for his gardens, plants, and you. We will miss him on so many levels and we pray for your peace in His decision. It is NEVER easy to lose a loved one but peace comes in warm loving memories and HIS promise.
