Thomas E. Elby

Thomas E. Elby, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2014.

Born in Mather, PA on May 2, 1933, Mr. Elby was a son of the late Thomas P. Elby and Margaret Lint Elby. He proudly served his country in the US Army. After his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Elby went to work for the Mather Coal Mine. After the mine closed in 1964, he would relocate to Delaware to take a position as a materials handler with the Chrysler Corporation, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on all of the Pittsburgh teams each season and attending U of D football games with his son. In his leisure time, Mr. Elby looked forward to visiting and spending time with his former coworkers from Chyrsler and the Mather Coal Mine and working around the house. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Moreland Kay Moore Elby. Mr. Elby is survived by his son, Thomas L. Elby of Newark; brother, Leonard Elby (Twila) of Connellsville, PA; and nieces and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, July 11, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
