Vera Ellis Snedeker

Born: 1/22/1923
Died: 11/6/2012

Mrs. Vera Ellis Snedeker, age 89, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of St. Georges, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
Mrs. Snedeker was a native of Pennsylvania, born on January 22, 1923, daughter of the late Joseph Ellis and Vera McClernan Ellis. A talented and resourceful homemaker, she also worked as a water safety instructor for the Red Cross, teaching courses for many years at Silver Lake in Middletown and at her home in St. Georges. She was a former professional sous chef as well and had been an instructor in the culinary program at Delaware Technical Community College.
A devout Christian throughout her life, Mrs. Snedeker was a longtime member of Community Vision Fellowship Church in New Castle. She was especially passionate about children’s ministry and–as an honorary and beloved “Mom Mom” to many young people–she mentored in both the church’s youth group and with Delaware Youth for Christ. She was also a member and Past Matron of the Five Points Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), where she did extensive volunteer work in support of Shriners charities.
In her leisure hours, Mrs. Snedeker greatly enjoyed seeing her many friends in the St. Georges Card Club. She delighted in annual family vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Ellison Snedeker, and grandson, Robert Brian Snedeker. She is survived by her children, Henry Snedeker, George Snedeker (Elizabeth), Joe Snedeker (Meredith), Vera Dee Zaborowski (Francis), Jan Snedeker (Tammy Fox), and Eleanor Bartell (Rev. Donald); brothers, Walter Ellis (Thelma Lou) and Joseph Ellis (Dorothy); brother-in-law, Thomas Snedeker (Mary); 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, November 12th, at the Community Vision Fellowship Church, 34 Kings Avenue, Duross Heights, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery, Kirkwood-St. Georges Road, St. Georges.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Development Office, 3551 North Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140; or to Delaware Youth for Christ, P.O. Box 5070, Wilmington, DE 19808.
