Vicmar A. Igartua
Retired Navy Chief
Mr. Vicmar A. Igartua, age 86, of Newark, DE, formerly of Norfolk, VA, died on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Wilmington Hospital.
Born in Bayamn, Puerto Rico, on March 17, 1924, Mr. Igartua was the son of the late Carmen and Victor Igartua. He made his career in the US Navy and proudly served his country during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before retiring with the rank of chief.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Igartua greatly enjoyed eating out, especially at Bob Evans where he liked to begin his day. He was also an avid fan of both the Eagles and the Phillies. Most of all, he delighted in caring for his pet Shih Tzu, Chubby, and spending time with his family and his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Blanca Olabarrieta Igartua. He is survived by his children, Eric V. Igartua and Sandra M. Igartua.
A memorial service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 6 pm.
