Viola H. Veen

Viola H. Veen, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

Viola, known fondly as Sue, was born in Port Huron, MI on July 22, 1924, and was the daughter of the late William Sass and Martha (Paul) Sass. She married her late husband, Clarence and the couple relocated to Newark with the Chrysler Corporation.

Sue was a retired member of UAW Local 1212 and enjoyed participating in union activities. She had many friends at the Newark Senior Center where she was a member of the stamp club and throughout her Todd Estates II neighborhood. Sue was an avid bowler for both the Senior and Teacher’s Time Out leagues, where she received numerous high-score bowling awards and delighted in providing the best darn cookies to her fellow members. Sue was known for her devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence M. Veen. Sue is survived by her four children and their spouses, Michael Veen (Tina) of Columbia, MD, Carolyn Prodgers (William) of Newark, Patricia Reidy (Joseph) of Laurel, MD and Barbara Little of Newark; nine adoring grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Michael R. Veen, Jason Prodgers, Ashley Conway, Rachel Reidy, Megan Ruddy and Stephen and James Little; and 10 great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday evening, April 30, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, May 1, 2015. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
