Virginia A. (Reel) Fitzpatrick

March 26, 1926 – July 20, 2015

Virginia A. (Reel) Fitzpatrick, age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2015.

Born in Dorcas, WV on March 26, 1926, Virginia was a daughter of the late Copher Thomas Reel and Erma B. (Judy) Reel. In addition to raising her family, she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Perry Point Veterans Medical Center in Havre de Grace, MD and later would accept a position with Acme Markets in Newark.

Virginia enjoyed travelling in her leisure time, especially to Rehoboth Beach. She relished spending time with her large family, who were truly her everything, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored. A devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Virginia will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Fitzpatrick who died in 1973; her first husband, Elwood L. Sage who died in 1949; and a son, Robert Sage who died in 2010. Virginia is survived by her sons, Frederick Sage (Polly) of Wilmington, DE, Thomas Fitzpatrick (Joanne) of Newark, DE, John Paul Fitzpatrick (Linda) of Hockessin, DE and James Fitzpatrick (Jennifer) of Katy, TX; brother, Bobby Reel (Janice) of Starks, LA; sister, Dixie Halsey of Newark, DE; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; daughter in law, Karen Sage; sister in law, Florence Reel of Newark, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday morning, July 24, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.
