Virginia (Somers) Quinn

Virginia (Somers) Quinn, age 100, of Newark, DE, and formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2014.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on Valentine’s Day 1914, Virginia was a daughter of the late Isaac S. Somers and Ethel Deputy Somers. She supported the war effort during WWII by serving as the inventory clerk at the former DuPont Airport. Virginia would later meet and marry the love of her life, Paul and after the two settled, she devoted her life to caring for their family. She resided in the Woodcrest subdivision of Wilmington until 1978 and would then move to the Jersey Shore.

A devout Christian woman, she gave of her time and talents as a volunteer at the Richardson Park and Holly Oak United Methodist Church where she was a member. Above all else, Virginia adored spending time with her husband, son and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul X. Quinn and her sister, Elsa Green. Virginia is survived by her son, Kenneth Quinn and wife Pauletta of Middletown, DE; grandchildren, Brian Quinn of Arlington, VA, Eric Quinn of West Chester, PA and Valerie Quinn of Washington, D.C.; 6 great grandchildren; and 3 great step grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday morning, June 5, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where family and friends may visit from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Virginia’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
