Walter Anthony Smith, Jr., age 65, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2015.

Born in Carbondale, PA on July 18, 1950, Walter was a son of the late Walter Anthony, Sr. and Marie R. (Tomaine) Smith. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Delaware, but his passion for cooking and fine cuisine led him to a career with Christiana Care where he worked as a kitchen supervisor.

Walter was well known for his wicked sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed travelling and playing video games with his brother. A devoted and loving husband, father and brother, Walter was happiest in the company of his family and will be very dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Ann Smith and son, Walter Anthony “Tony” Smith III. Walter is survived by his siblings, Bernard Smith (Diane) and Marianne Long (Darren); niece, Kristen Stuller (Justin); and great nephew, Henry Ocean Stuller.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Saturday afternoon, November 21, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 pm until 4 pm. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Walter’s memory may be made to the Patient Access Network Foundation, an organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients receiving treatments not covered by insurance, c/o 1331 F.   • Was so shocked to hear of Walt’s passing. We looked forward to his humor and input every Monday morning at the Cancer support community. We will miss his positivity, strength and stories. My heartfelt condolences go out to all of the Smith family. He is at peace but we’ll miss him terribly.
