Walter Clayton Johnson, age 79, of Newark, DE and formerly of Millville, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, April 21, 2014.

Born in Millville, PA on December 26, 1934, Walter was a son of the late John Sherman Johnson and Lorna Sadler Johnson. He was a member of the Millville High School graduating class of 1952. He proudly served his country for 4 years in the US Army. After being honorably discharged from military service, Walter went on to work for Aspen Tree Service. He would later change career paths and made his career as a master carpenter, specializing in custom home building. Walter eventually retired from the Maryland-based Thiakol Corp after many years of dedicated service.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Walter was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert. Walter is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Gloria R. (Hess) Johnson; daughter, Wendy L. Johnson and fiancé Dale L. Faulls; son, Randy S. Johnson and wife Michelle; sister, Margaret Johnson; and 4 grandchildren, Kelsey T. Styles, Mathew T. Styles, Brianna L. Johnson and Bennett S. Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday morning, May 2, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where family and friends may visit from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Walter’s name be sent to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 200 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713.
