Wilbur Roy Best, Jr.
Mr. Wilbur Roy Best, Jr., age 67, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 while surrounded by his loving family.
Wil was born in Wilmington Delaware on August 29, 1942 and graduated from H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 while stationed in Beaufort, SC and later graduated with an associates degree from Delaware Technical and Community College. Wils most notable work experience was ownership and management of Hares Corner Texaco and Soda Towne. He retired in 2000, keeping busy as a tax professional for H&R Block until May of 2009.
Wil loved to bowl, enjoying over 40 years on the same team with his cousin Paul Norris, and is recognized for bowling two 300 games. He passed his love of the game to his children and grandchildren. Wil also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends at his Best Nest in the Poconos. Wil will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, quick wit, charm, quirky smile, and his special ability to fix any problem.
Wil was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Roy Best, Sr.; sister, Joyce Taylor; and brother, James L. Best. He is survived by his mother, Betty F. Robinson; and beloved sisters, Bonnie Schrader and Linda Shoemaker. He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol B. Best; sons, W. Roy Best, III and wife, Shelley and Alan Christopher Best; daughter, Amanda Mietara Sinko and her husband, Timothy Allen Sinko; and grandchildren, Alexander Roy, Jacob Ryan, and Gabrielle Ann Best, Brooke Mietara Lynn Sinko, and Julianna Lynn Best.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Wils cousins, Thelma Mayer and Paul Norris and his wife, Judy for their continued support and love. To the angels of Delaware Hospice, you will always be in our hearts and prayers.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A visitation will be held from 7 until 9 pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the funeral home.
