William D. McNeal
Mr. William D. Bill McNeal, age 62, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011.
Born in Endicott, NY on July 28, 1948, Bill was the son of the late John W. and Ruby E. McNeal. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as a member of the famed Fighting SeaBees construction battalion. In civilian life, he made his career as a shop superintendent and professional truck driver with Quantum Controls.
An active, dedicated member of St. Anthony of Padua parish for many years, Bill volunteered tirelessly in a variety of church ministries. He was widely admired for his compassionate, giving nature and willingness to help anyone in need at any time.
In his leisure hours, Bill greatly enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating, watching movies, and, most of all, spending time with his beloved family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice E. Starkey, his brother, John Edward McNeal, and a nephew, Bryan D. Starkey. He is survived by his wife, Rose Patricia McNeal; stepmother, Grace McNeal; sisters, Susan Harman (Fred) of Wilmington, and Sondra Bradley (Stanley Godlewski) of Wilmington; stepchildren, Tammy Kozlowski (Steve) of Newark, Lisa McGonigle (Chris) of Rising Sun, MD, and Lee Rees (Anne) of Townsend; nephews and niece, Keith Starkey, Stefan Godlewski, Stacie Godlewski (Orlando), Shane Godlewski (Kim), Shannon Godlewski (Tina), and four other nephews; eight step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; seven great nephews and four great nieces.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, April 17th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Monday, April 18th, at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Ninth & DuPont Streets, Wilmington, where a second visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
