William H. Stevens

William H. Stevens, age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Bill was born in Wilmington, DE on September 8, 1924. He was the eldest son of the late Blanche and Wilmer H Stevens. He was educated in the Stanton School District and enjoyed many of the reunions the group has shared. Bill was a life-long learner and shared that with his fellow firefighters, coworkers and the Boy Scouts who grew up in his guidance. After many years of employment, he retired from the Red Clay and Colonial School Districts.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Ruth Stevens, a son, Wilmer N. Steve Stevens, and a granddaughter. He is survived by his brother, Edward Stevens and his sister, Elsie Megonigal. Surviving children are Helen Tibbitt and husband, Rodney L. of Middletown, DE, Larry K. Stevens and wife, Lorraine R. of Bear DE, daughter“in-law, Barbara E. Stevens of Newark, DE, as well as 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2016, at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
