William Joseph Elisee
Mr. William Joseph Elisee, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Penn Acres in New Castle, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Mr. Elisee was born in Holyoke, MA, on November 26, 1924, son of the late Celina Fournier Elisee. A decorated veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the US Navy as a plank owner aboard the famed aircraft carrier USS Independence during its wartime mission in the Pacific Theater.
In civilian life, Mr. Elisee made his career in the petroleum industry, retiring as a maintenance planner with the Mobil Oil Company. Active in his community, he was a longtime member of American Legion Joseph B. Stahl Post #30 and Knights of Columbus Bishop Becker Council #2856, both in New Castle. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed playing cards, traveling, fishing, and telling corny jokes to his always appreciative family and friends.
His beloved wife, Mary Helen Petrison Elisee, with whom he would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on February 6th, passed away on January 2nd of this year. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Anita Knapp and Dorothy Elisee.
He is survived by his children, William R. Elisee and his wife, Carol, Theodore A. Elisee and his wife, Anne Marie, Andrew M. Elisee and his wife, Connie, and Karen M. Virion and her husband, Joseph; sisters, Eva Boudreaux and Edna Ogulewicz and her husband, Mitchell; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Saturday, February 5th, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery in New Castle.
