William M. Rowan
Mr. William M. Rowan (Bill), age 57, of Newark, DE, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Rowan was born in Wilmington on March 6, 1953, son of the late William F. Rowan and Priscilla Haynes Rowan. A 1971 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Senior High School, he made his career as a lab technician, working for Astra Zeneca in Newark for the past 15 years.
Mr. Rowan loved the beach throughout his life and delighted in staying at his vacation home on Broadkill Beach, where he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and boating, and was an active member of the Broadkill Beach Preservation Association. Well known and admired for his strong work ethic, he will be fondly remembered for his great generosity and willingness to help family, friends, and neighbors whenever they were in need.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael D. Rowan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Karen M. Ross Rowan; brother, Paul N. Rowan and wife, Terry, of Neptune, NJ; mother-in-law, Lois M. Ross of Newark; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rowan of California; sister- and brother-in-law, Linda C. and Stephen M. Kay of Newark; nieces and nephews, Jessica E. Weber and husband, Scott, of China, Jonathan A. Kay of Philadelphia, PA, Keith Rowan, Brian and Nicki Rowan, and Elizabeth Gregorie; and aunt and uncle, Nancy and Jack Davis of Newark.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.
