WILLIAM N. “BILLY” HALDAS

Born May 4, 1946

William N. Billy Haldas, age 68, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on July 11, 2014 at Wilmington Hospital.

Mr. Haldas was born on May 4, 1946 in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late Gus S. Haldas and Eva Tshulos Haldas.

Billy was a dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather (affectionately referred to as Willy Pop), brother, uncle and friend. He was unique and spirited, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him appreciated his many talents. These talents ranged from his truly gifted piano skills, to his entertaining and animated political pontifications, to his ability to MacGyver any faulty electrical or mechanical system into full functionality. He worked as a respected merchandising manager for the Standard Distributing Company in New Castle and retired after 30 years of service. He also served in the Delaware Army National Guard and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington.

Billy is survived by his cherished and loving bride of 42 years, Shirley F. Kinney Haldas; son, Christopher M. Haldas and his wife, Melanie A. of Bear; granddaughter, Amber N. Haldas; sister, Suzanne H. Wilkinson of Newark; brother-in-law, Carl Kinney, Sr. and his wife Cathy, of Middletown; nephew, Carl Kinney, Jr.; and nieces, Alise Kinney (god child), Carissa Moriello and Kellie Yarnell.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm, on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806.

  • Bill, it was a pleasure playing with you over the years – first in the 287th Army Band and then 5 years keeping the rhythm solid for your keyboard work in Forrest. Great memories. No doubt you’re in rock and roll heaven.

    Christopher, we never met, but I remember their wedding, your Mom pregnant with you, and how proud he was that you were on the way.

Bill was a great friend to have known and I will always remember the adventures we had back in the 60’s.
