William Olin Willford, PhD

William Olin Williford, age 80, of Newark, DE passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

Born in San Pedro, CA on July 18, 1933, Dr. Williford was a son of Dyal Olin Williford and Emma White Williford.  He received his undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University, his masters in mathematics from Florida State University, and his PhD in statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.  After completing his education, he was an assistant professor of statistics at the University of Georgia for 9 years.  He then made his career as a biostatistician and was co-author of over 50 multicenter clinical trials at the Perry Point, MD VA Medical Center.

An avid book collector, he enjoyed intellectual reading and debate and was a passionate history and classical music buff.  He was a longtime member of Newark United Methodist Church.  Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dyal Olin Williford, Jr. and Olin Hartwell Williford.  Dr. Williford is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Patricia Franklin Williford; daughter, Emma Williford; son, Evan Williford and wife Dionne; and 2 grandchildren, Elise and Sophie Williford; and nephew, Colin Williford.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE.
