William R. Walls

December 25, 1925 - February 21, 2014

William R. Walls, age 88, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2014.

Born on  December 25, 1925 in Austinville, VA, William was the son of the late Everett and Hassie Walls.

He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II.

During his working career, William worked in various professions, including  a coal miner, tank assembler, exterminator, worked in a rubber factory, as well as with the Wilmington Port Authority.  He retired from Environmental Operations of New Castle County following more than 20 years of dedicated service.

William enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and bingo, listening to country music, watching television and visiting the slots.  He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucinda Walls in 2005 and a daughter, Sandra Starrett.

He is survived by three children, Greene Walls (Jane), Bob Walls (Elizabeth) and Evelyn Falkowski; three sisters, Nellie Williamson, Frances Barber and Audrey Burnsed and three loving grandchildren, Michael and Josh Walls and Amber Bailey.

A committal service will be held 10:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 630 Churchmans Road, Suite 202, Newark, DE 19702.

Jehovah God holds this promise to all who have fallen asleep in death at John 5:28 “Do not be amazed at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” This is a promise from the scriptures.
