William W. Long, Sr.
March 13, 1925 - July 12, 2016
William W. Long, Sr. of Seaford, DE died peacefully on July 12, 2016 at Seasons Hospice in Christiana, DE at the age of 91. He was born in 1925 in Philadelphia, PA to Mark L. and Clara D. Long.
William proudly served in the Navy in World War II. He attended Friends Select School and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
During his time in Pennsylvania he taught sixth grade in Haverford Township, was Supervising Principal in Ambler, and was Superintendent of Schools in Southern School District, Glen Rock. Upon moving to Delaware, he became Superintendent of Schools for Seaford School District and worked in administration in Laurel School District. Following his retirement in 1991, he worked as a supervisor and mentor of student teachers at Salisbury University.
William is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, June Long; his children, William W. Long, Jr., Karen Wilson (Bruce), Susan Long, and John Long (Susan); grandchildren, Lauren Carey, Michael Long (Ivy), and Jessica Berg (Jorgen); and he was looking forward to the arrival of his new great-grandson.
In addition to spending time with his family, he loved reading, going out to eat, and drinking a good cup of coffee.
Just as he dedicated his career to learning, he continues to educate even in death as he willed his body to scientific medical research.
Services and interment will be held privately.

Bill Long was one of the truly nice guys that I had the pleasure of meeting over the years. Being nice was his trademark but being a truly outstanding Educator will be his legacy. My prayers are with him and his family.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear loved one. He sounded like a caring person who accomplished a lot and was loved by many. May memories of him and our Heavenly Father, who is the God of all comfort, give you the strength and comfort that you need (2 Corinthians 1:3). Our Heavenly Father understands your pain because he too has experienced the death of his beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Just as God resurrected his Son, he yearns to resurrect our loved ones as well (Job 14:14,15). I hope these words give you the comfort and peace you need during this difficult time.

It was my privilege to be Mr. Long’s secretary when he was Superintendent at Seaford School District. He was truly a really nice man and a gentleman always. I know he will be greatly missed. My sincere sympathy to Mrs. Long and all the family.

One cannot forget Mr. Long and his family. My personal experience was that they did not judge someone by their outside, and yes, by their inside. That made a lifelong impression on me. Mr. Long you lived the full life and we are better for it. Thank You.
