Alberta Rose Beheler

Died: 4/2/2011

Mrs. Alberta Rose Beheler, age 78, of New Castle, DE, went home to be with the Lord on angels wings on Saturday, April 2, 2011.

Born in Wildwood, NJ, on January 6, 1933, Rose was a gifted musician from her youth. At the age of 12, she began playing the organ for Sunday services at the Tabernacle U.M. Church in Erma, NJ, and would go on to become an All-State trumpeter and choir standout at Cape May High School. Though she gave up her music career to become a wife, mother, and homemaker, her great love of music remained with her throughout her life.

Active in her community, Rose was a dedicated member of Ebenezer U.M. Church and its altar guild. She was a longtime supporter of Suburban Little League, volunteering as both a player agent and concession chairperson, and ran the snack bar at Delcastle High School for many years. For a time, she also assisted in organization and cataloging for the State of Delaware Adjutant Generals office.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Maxie O. Beheler; children, April L. DeBenedictis of Delaware City, Kathleen J. Kearns (Christopher) of New Castle, and Richard L. Beheler (Josee) of New London, PA; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Snyder Williams, son, Steven W. Beheler, granddaughter, Justine J. Kearns, and son-in-law, Ozzie P. DeBenedictis.

Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, April 7th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 8th, at Ebenezer U.M. Church, 306 Clinton Street, Delaware City, where a second visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1636, Wilmington, DE 19899. Mark donations for the Steven Wesley Beheler Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Steven Beheler and Justine Kearns.
